HISTORY OF THE LAKE SHORE
Sportsmens Club

In the Fall of 1989, Mike Gates put together a Big Buck Contest through the Exempt Association for the members of the Fire Company, Exempts and their families. Mike Gates served as Chairman of the Committee, along with Skip Hooper, Brian Horwood and Bob Richardson Jr. as Committee members. There were 16 members who were in the first contest and Jack Keller was the first winner. The next year, eight additional members got in and together with those who were in the first year, there were 24 Charter members. The Exempts Big Buck Club evolved into the Lake Shore Vol. Fire Co. Exempts Sportsmen’s Club.
The Contest has been held every year since and the membership has increased to just over 150. Meetings are held quarterly and the highlight of the year is the Contest Dinner which is held each February. At this Dinner, Contest Winners are awarded prizes for their entries in the previous years contest and there are even some joke awards presented. It is not an event to miss!
